Reflect

How many years and how many times have any of us read a particular scripture or sung a particular song and then have an “aha” moment in which an idea or statement leapt off the page or crashed through the sound system and revealed something that seemed so new? The hymn “Victory In Jesus” was always a favorite of mine and yet one worship service, singing the chorus for a second time, “He loved me ‘ere I knew him” metaphorically slapped my face. Maybe that was what Paul did in addressing the Galatians. God knew the Galatians, and the Galatians came to know God. God finds us more than we find Him. Because God gave salvation to the Galatians (and others) and adopted them as children of the kingdom, Paul warned the Galatians against returning to a pre-justification way of thinking and living: don’t allow demons and idols to resume their control over them from which the Galatians had been freed. It’s perhaps a little difficult in today’s world to truly see idols in our midst. But they are here. The desire for wealth, desire for power, desire for praise, desire for self-aggrandizement. It may be that, recalling yesterday’s e-votion, a look in the mirror is necessary to find the person who God through Jesus Christ has freed. He loved us before we knew Him and now our love is what is due to Him in return.

Pray

God of eternity, thank You for the redemption you have brought into our lives. Thank you for the emotion, spiritual, and physical healings we have experienced. Thank You for finding us and making us Your children. Amen.

Go with God!
