Children’s Fest is virtual in 2021. This means children can attend without traveling long distances. All you have to do is gather the children at your church and tune into Zoom. The day’s activities are planned around two scriptures: Deuteronomy 6: 4 – 9 and Luke 10: 25 – 37. We hope the children of your church will join us on this day to learn more about how Jesus wanted us to love our neighbor!
Each church group will register for this event as a group. One adult will need to register the group. This adult will be considered the contact person for the event. You will not need to give the names of children who will be participating, but will need to know the approximate number of children and their grades. After you register you will receive an email with all of the event information. You will also receive in the mail a couple items for the participants for the day of the event. You will need to register no later than July 1 to insure you will receive these items in time for the event. To register your group click the blue button on this page.
Preparing for Children's Fest in Your Neighborhood
After you register your group you will receive an email that will have a ton of helpful information about the day and how to prepare the leaders and the participants. There are even a few extra suggested activities that you can use on the day of the event, or on another day to extend the event.
The main areas you will need to plan for ahead of time:
- Leadership – Based on your group size you will need to have volunteers to help you with the day.
- Lunch – Plan a lunch that is child friendly and that is quick and easy leaving time for the children to work on the project.
- Local Project – You will need to do the prep work for the project that allows the children to use the time allotted for this in the best possible way. See information about Local Project.
- Covid Safety – Follow the Covid safety rules of your church and community.
- Internet Access – Check on the Wi-fi connection at your church or other location you plan to meet. Plan ahead for what screen you will use during the event. This could be anything from a laptop to a large screen TV – depending on what you have access to and the size of your group.
The theme for the event is Love Your Neighbor. There is a two hour time block in the middle of the day that you will not be on Zoom. This time is for your group to eat lunch and work on a group project. This project should benefit a neighbor or a group of neighbors. You may use this time to make something that will later be given to the neighbor, or decide on how to help the neighbor in some way. Be creative. Think out of the box – maybe consider helping a neighbor/or group that you have not helped before. It would be great if the children could use some of the ideas they have learned from Children’s Fest – to love their neighbor, to reach out in kindness, to help someone in need, to give of their time, to go the extra mile, to really get to know their neighbor even if it is someone different from themselves.
Internet for Event - At Church or Other Location
For this event you will need to have access to Wi-fi and screen for your group to gather around to watch the Zoom sessions. If your church does not have a strong Wi-fi signal you might think about gathering at the home of a church member to participate. There might also be some other public locations that have Wi-fi that would let you gather there for the day.
There is no registration fee. The schedule for the day is such that lunch will need to be provided for the group. And, there may be a few supplies needed. After you register your group you will receive an email with all the information about supplies. There may also be supplies needed for the group project.
Age for Participation
This event was created with children K – 6the grade in mind. It is up to each individual group if they want to allow younger or older children/youth to participate.
If your church has one child or many children this event can work for you. Most of the activities can be done by one child with very few adjustments. You could also check around to see if there is another church close by that may be participating and see if your child can join in with that group.
