The Reverend Brian Clinton Gary (Cumberland Presbytery), 76, died February 27, 2021, in Radcliff, Kentucky. Brian was born in Hampton, Virginia, December 20, 1944, to Ryland Clinton Gary and wife Viola Kathleen Earheart. Brian was educated in the public schools of Hampton and graduated from Kecoughtan High School in 1963 before attending Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
After high school, Brian joined the U.S. Army from which he eventually retired. Brian served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He married Alma Cathy Furr March 8, 1974. Together they had three children, Amanda, Shawnna, and Michael.
In 1987, while serving the army as an instructor at Fort Knox, Kentucky, Brian joined the Radcliff Presbyterian Fellowship which, at that time, was a joint ministry of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. Called to the ministry, he came under the care of Cumberland Presbytery in 1991, was licensed in 1997, and, after completing the Program of Alternate Studies in July 1998, ordained by Cumberland Presbytery November 29, 1998.
Brian pastored Auburn Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Mount Olive Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Cumberland Presbytery. Denominationally, Brian served on the Committee on Theology and Social Concerns. At the time of his death, Brian had been without charge for some time.
