Joyce Ann Reeves, 78, of Memphis, Tennessee, died June 29, 2025. A lifelong member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, she was most recently a member of New Salem Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Lakeland, Tennessee (Cornerstone Presbytery).
Joyce served the denomination faithfully for many years in various roles, including positions with the Board of Missions, Central Services, and the Ministry Council’s Missions, Communications, and Pastoral Development Ministry Teams. Known across the church for her warm presence, she was often the first voice heard or the first face seen—serving as telephone operator and receptionist. In that capacity, she became a beloved point of contact for countless members, ministers, and visitors. She also played an integral role in the denomination’s Leadership Referral Service. Joyce retired at the end of 2013, closing a long career of dedicated service.
Born Sept. 27, 1946, Joyce was known for her love of home and family. “I’m a homebody,” she once said. “Like staying home, cooking for all the younguns who come in and out. Going to Arkansas visiting my sister and Mama.” She enjoyed reading “trashy romance novels” and was rarely stumped when it came to singing along with her favorite 1950s and 1960s rock and roll hits.
Her warmth, humor, and unmistakable voice will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
