Darlis Rebecca Edwards Scobey, 95, of Germantown, Tennessee, died January 26, 2025. She was the daughter of Sherman and Naomi Edwards and grew up in the White Oak Pond Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Lebanon, Missouri. After graduation from Lebanon High School, she attended Bethel College, where she met James Ralph Scobey, who became her husband on September 4, 1949. Once James completed his seminary studies, he entered the Air Force chaplaincy, with Darlis always at the ready to support him in his work and to provide a stable homelife for their daughters during their frequent moves. After retiring from the Air Force, James and Darlis settled in Farmington, Missouri, where he served in Missouri Presbytery as a hospital chaplain and she as a social worker at Farmington Presbyterian Manor. In addition, Darlis volunteered for many years at the Ministerial Alliance Thrift Store, filling in as interim director as needed, and also for Serenity Hospice. When Darlis moved to Germantown, she joined Farmington Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) where her granddaughter, the Reverend Rebecca Luter, is pastor. The Reverend Ronald McMillan (Cornerstone Presbytery) is Darlis’ brother-in-law.
