The Tigretts of West Tennessee and Their Families
When I was a young girl, I was "meddling" in the old treadle sewing machine drawers of my grandmother, Grace Truman Edwards Loggins. I found an article labeled Tigrett and Shibley. I asked her who they were and her response was "They are kin." I also loved looking through her box of pictures. I was always fascinated by a picture of her as a toddler sitting with her mother, father, and older brother in front of a beautiful old house. In the late 1970s, I sat down with her so that she could identify the pictures for me. Sadly, I heard and wrote down the names but I didn't ask her for the stories. Whenever we went through Newbern, Tennessee, we would pass that beautiful house and she would say, "I was born in a little house on the side of that house." Again, I didn't ask questions. I have now sought to find the answer to the question that I should have asked: How are we and the Tigretts related, Grandmother Gracie?
