Ministry Council Summary of Actions

The Ministry Council Corporation Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors was held Friday, August 21, 2020, via Zoom. In attendance were Carla Bellis, Rev. Kenny Butcher, Rev. Dr. Michael Clark, Juan David Correa, Amy Cresswell, Debbie Hayes, Rev. Phillip Layne, Rev. Derek Jacks, Lori Kerner, Angelica Poveda, Melinda Reams, Ted Shirai, Rev. Tim Smith, and Rev. Mike Wilkinson; Youth Advisory Members: Rylee Rogers and Lake Porter; Advisory Members: Moderator of General Assembly Rev. Shelia O’Mara, and Stated Clerk of General Assembly Rev. Mike Sharpe; Staff present were Director of Ministries Edith Old and CMT Leader Rev. Steven Shelton who provided tech support.
The Ministry Council approved including in its report to the 2021 General Assembly of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church a recommendation that all denominational center staff (General Assembly Office, Board of Stewardship, Foundation and Benefits, Historical Foundation, and Ministry Council) be recognized and commended for the faithful ministry they carried on during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The following individuals were elected to serve in the offices of the Ministry Council: Victory Moore, President; Carla Bellis, First Vice President; Rev. Phillip Layne, Second Vice President; Rev. Kenny Butcher, Secretary; and Debbie Hayes, Assistant Secretary.
The Council approved the Adhoc Personnel Committee Report and revisions will be made to the Ministry Council Personnel Handbook.
Financial status report was reviewed by the Ministry Council.
Ministry Team Liaisons shared comprehensive Ministry Team reports reflecting new opportunities and goals for the rest of 2020 and beyond. Particular focus was given to providing ministry and keeping people connected during the pandemic.
Edith Old presented the Director of Ministries’ Report which was approved along with its four recommendations. The Ministry Council remains grateful to Edith for her dedication.
Adjourned to meet Saturday and Sunday, February 20-21, 2021, at the Cumberland Presbyterian Denomination Center in Cordova, TN.
