1954, Cumberland Presbyterian Magazine Defends Comic Books download
From the late1940s, comic books became the scapegoats for everything wrong with American youth. Comics found very few defenders and almost none within the church press. Exceptions were the Rev. Dr. C. Ray Dobbins, editor of the Cumberland Presbyterian Magazine and the Rev. H. Harold Davis, editor of the youth quarterly.
This download contains Dobbins' editorial defense of comic books from 1954 as well as two letters to the editor, one also defending comics and the other attacking. We have also included the ratings of comics to which Dobbins refers in his editorial.
