Pay attention to the tension in your body. Let go of it and any expectations to do anything other than God’s will today. Prepare yourself to hear God’s word.
6 So also David pronounces a blessing on those to whom God reckons righteousness apart from works:
7 “Blessed are those whose iniquities are forgiven
and whose sins are covered;
8 blessed is the one against whom the Lord will not reckon sin.”
9 Is this blessing, then, pronounced only on the circumcised or also on the uncircumcised? We say, “Faith was reckoned to Abraham as righteousness.” 10 How then was it reckoned to him? Was it before or after he had been circumcised? It was not after but before he was circumcised. 11 He received the sign of circumcision as a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. The purpose was to make him the ancestor of all who believe without being circumcised and who thus have righteousness reckoned to them, 12 and likewise the ancestor of the circumcised who are not only circumcised but follow the example of the faith that our ancestor Abraham had before he was circumcised.
13 For the promise that he would inherit the world did not come to Abraham or to his descendants through the law but through the righteousness of faith.
Depending on God’s mercy and grace through faith not on ourselves.
God works in our lives in long patience, love, and mercy. Before Abraham became the father of the Jewish nation, he was first a Gentile. However, he heard God’s voice and followed His direction believing. Faith is what made Abraham great, not by something he could do for himself. Righteousness is the quality of being right in the eyes of God that involves our character, attitude, actions, and God’s word. Fourteen years after Abraham believed God, God commanded an action on Abraham’s part – circumcision. There is a comparison here with circumcision and baptism. We believe in God sometime before we acknowledge our sin and accept Christ. Our water baptism comes afterward. Our faith in God and his Son establishes our righteousness, not through any action we can do for ourselves, but only through faith in God. Faith and obedience establish our right relationship with God.
Holy Father, I thank you for who you are, your mercy, your grace, and your forgiveness. Thank you for reaching out to me to be your child through Christ. Forgive me when I fail you. I believe, help my unbelief. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Go with God.
