Reflect

A heartbreaking experience that many people have gone through and increasingly go through is seeing an older loved one dealing with Dementia and its various forms. The person who has been a strong presence in your life digresses in their physical bodies and minds.  It’s terribly difficult to see and as of now, there is really nothing that we can do to stop it.  Maybe one day we will find a cure for it, but for now, all we may be able to do is slow it to various degrees.

It is an unfortunate reminder that we were not made for this earth. We were created for something better. One day at the church I was in the senior adult bible class and one of my folks was having trouble getting out of their chair. When they finally managed, I heard a couple of big pops and a moan.  I asked if she needed some help? She said no. I asked how she had been feeling to which she replied, “Terrible, absolutely terrible, but every pop and moan reminds me that I’m closer to home than I was before.”

The breakdown of our bodies and minds reminds us that we were created for something greater and better than we experience on this earth. The Christian faith proclaims that we will be healed and recreated to the divine image of God. We receive this through faith in Jesus Christ and are assured of it by the Holy Spirit.

Pray

Thank you, O God, that our end is not in pain and death, but through Jesus Christ, we are healed. Amen

Go with God!
