Pay attention to the tension in your body. Let go of it and any expectations to do anything other than God’s will today. Prepare yourself to hear God’s word.
18 In the morning, when he returned to the city, he was hungry. 19 And seeing a fig tree by the side of the road, he went to it and found nothing at all on it but leaves. Then he said to it, “May no fruit ever come from you again!” And the fig tree withered at once. 20 When the disciples saw it, they were amazed, saying, “How did the fig tree wither at once?” 21 Jesus answered them, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only will you do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ it will be done. 22 Whatever you ask for in prayer with faith, you will receive.”
A teacher sets down with a worried student who had heard that in the class from the previous semester, almost no one had passed the course. The student asked the teacher, “Why didn’t anyone pass your class last semester?” The teacher quickly responded, “Because none of them asked me for help.” “So, to pass your class, all I have to do is ask you for help,” the student asked. The teacher looked directly at the student and said, “That is where it all begins. If you are willing to ask me for help, then I am willing to help you. I am willing to help you make it through this class. If you need something, I will take care of it. If you need help, I will take care of it. I am here to help you succeed. The previous class had students, but they didn’t listen to me. I told them to come to me, but they did not. I told them that to pass the class they would need my help, they never sought it. Please, do not be like them. Please, ask me for help. I love to help my students.”
To understand the fig tree, you have to remember what precedes it, Jesus at the temple.
We pray today because you are there God. You are there to help us. We are thankful. We are thankful you are there because we are lost and toss back and forth without you. We pray today because you are there God, and we know that we need you. Thank you, God, for loving us and being patient and graceful. Thank you for helping us. Amen.
Go with God!
