Slow your breathing and become aware of the taking in and letting out of your breath. Focus on putting things aside so you will be open to what God is saying to you today.
Isaiah 6:1-4 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lofty; and the hem of his robe filled the temple. Seraphs were in attendance above him; each had six wings: with two they covered their faces, and with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew. And one called to another and said:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
the whole earth is full of his glory.”
The pivots on the thresholds shook at the voices of those who called, and the house filled with smoke.
You know, I realize that God is so far out of my league that I don’t believe it when I hear that the God of the universe wants me to ride along with me. I try to live like I want to follow God, but I always fail. The harder I try, the harder I fail. God knows it; I know it. Sometimes, no else knows it. And you would think that would make me feel better. But many times, it does not.
The more I live as a man of Christ – a Christ-follower – the more I understand that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners just like me. Maybe you are like me – you try and fail to live like a believer.
But take hope in a few crucial things. First, you are never going to win the Christ-follower game on your own. You can drop that little bit of baggage; it’s a way of living, not a game. The One Who calls You loves you, warts and all, and can help you live for Him, if you only trust Him. You can put away the “self-help Christian” books now. Second, you are in good company. Isaiah. Paul. David. A whole bunch more. Third, the more you read the Story of Grace, the more you want to read it, follow it, live it.
Hey, God. Help me to keep reading Your Story of Grace – the Bible. Open my eyes to what it says. Help me, and the one who is taking this bit of wisdom seriously, to give it more than just a try. Help the one who is seriously reading this to learn, accept, believe, and apply Your saving grace to life and love. In the name of Jesus Christ, and the Power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Go with God!
